Anopheles stephensi lava (f.Culicidae) - note does not have a siphon and feeds parallel to the surface cf Culicini which have a siphon and feeds at an angle to the surface. The head is narrower than the thorax unlike many Culicini. The adult is the major vector of human malaria in Middle East and South Asia region, and belongs to the same subgenus as Anopheles gambiae, the main malaria vector in Africa.
